Info:Alfred Scott, ein Ingenieur aus Yorkshire entwickelte einen 2-Zylinder-Motor, der für den Einbau in ein Motorrad klein und stark genug war. 1908 baute er in Saltaire/Yorkshire die ersten sechs Prototypen der 486cc Scott (TS watercooled twin). Auch der Kickstarter wurde hier erfunden und 1909 weltweit erstmals serienmäßig eingebaut. Rennsiege in der Senior TT 1912 und 1913 machten Scott zur bekanntesten Motorradmarke Großbritanniens. 1918 verließ Alfred Scott das Unternehmen, um sich ganz der Entwicklung eines unorthodoxen Dreirades zu widmen, des “Scott Sociable”. Investoren wandelten die Firma 1919 in eine AG um, 1920 kam Harry Shackleton als Chefkonstrukteur an Bord und brachte u.a. 1926 das legendäre “Flying Squirrel” heraus. Die “Scott Motor Cycle Company” wurde schon in den 20er Jahren wieder insolvent, doch die Fabrik überlebte mit wieder neuen Besitzern. Nach einer tiefen Rezession in Folge der Weltwirtschaftskrise wurden Anfang der 30er Jahre nur noch alte Modelle aus vorhandenen Teilen zusammengeschraubt, doch Mitte der 30er Jahre entwickelte der neue Chefkonstrukteur Bill Cull eine neue 3-Zylinder-Maschine mit 750, später 1.000 ccm. Nach dem Krieg kam ein überarbeitetes Model mit luftgefederter Gabel heraus, 1950 verlegte der neue Besitzer Matt Holder die Fabrik von Shipley nach Birmingham. Er modernisierte das Design mit einem neuen Federrahmen, einem schnittigen Tank und einem Sitz für Fahrer und Sozius. Als die Stadtverwaltung von Birmingham Ende der 60er Jahre eine Verlegung der Fabrik forderte, ging die Produktion des Scott trotz beständiger Nachfrage zu Ende. Was blieb, war fast eine Legende: “Few designs have inspired such devotion from admirers as the Scott,” beginnt “das” Standardwerk der Branche, die “Encyclopedia of Motorcycles” seine Beschreibung.
