Die ersten Fluggäste hatten es recht beschwerlich: man fuhr mit dem Zug von New York nach Columbus/Ohio, flog weiter nach Dodge City in Kansas, stieg bis Las Vegas wieder auf die Eisenbahn um und flog schließlich bis Los Angeles (alles in allem ein 2-Tages-Trip). Als Chefingenieur gewann die Airline Lindbergh, was sich sehr werbewirksam vermarkten ließ.
