Almeron McKenney (1812-1897), ein Sohn schottischer Einwanderer, war Erfinder und beschäftigte sich mit Eisenbahnanlagen, um deren Effizienz zu verbessern. Zu diesem Zwecke gründete er diese Gesellschaft, andere Quellen benennen das Unternehmen auch als McKenney Tubular Rail Manufacturing Company. Wie erfolgreich das Unternehmen tatsächlich war, und welche Produkte neben röhrenartigen Schienensystemen noch gefertigt wurden, lässt sich anhand der spärlichen Quellen nicht feststellen. Tatsache ist, dass sich die Eisenschiene, wie wir sie kennen, als das Nonplus-Ultra im Schienenverkehr bis heute bewährt hat.
