Deshalb gründete sie 1856 mit weiteren Geldgebern die Cie. Franco-Suisse und beteiligte sich mit 40 % am Kapital für den Bau einer Bahnstrecke von (Pontarlie-) Les Verrieres durch das Val de Travers nach Neuenburg. Die Linie wollte sich nicht rentieren, die Konkurrentin Schweizerische Centralbahn nahm über den Grenzpunkt Basel zu viel Verkehr ab.
