In den 1890er Jahren waren es schon etwa 2500 Miners in der Klondyke-Region, die nach Gold suchten und auch immer wieder Funde machten. 1897 sind dort sagenhafte Goldfunde gemacht worden, die bald Zehntausende Menschen anzogen und zur Entstehung mancher großer Vermögen beitrugen. Die Wells Fargo Mining Co. wurde am 28.1.1875 gegründet. 1852 gründeten William Fargo und Henry Wells (neben der ebenfalls von ihnen initiierten American Express Company) in Kalifornien für das Geschäft im „Wilden Westen“ eine separate Gesellschaft, die Wells Fargo Co.
