Als Berater beim Bau der knapp 40 km langen Strecke fungierte Niklaus Riggenbach. Bahnbau 1854, 1857 Eröffnung der ersten Strecke von La-Chaux-de-Fonds nach Le Locle, 7 km lang. Die Eröffnung der kompletten Strecke von Neuenburg nach Le Locle erfolgte 1860.
