Eine war die New York City Rapid Transit Co., gegr. 1872 von Commodore Vanderbilt. Eine andere, zuerst gechartert 1868 als Beach Pneumatic Transit Co. begann ihr ledigliches Papierleben als Plan für eine pneumatische Propeller Fracht-Eisenbahn. 1874 wurde der Name geändert in Broadway Underground Ry mit dem Plan auch Passagiere zu transportieren. Geändert 1885 mit einem Subway-Plan als Arcade Ry.1897 gab es die New York Parcel Dispatch Co, einer geplanten Pneumatischen Eisenbahn. Die New York City Central Underground Ry, zuerst gechartert 1868 erhielt 1880 neues Leben als New York Underground Ry.
