Jacquot aus Metz, führte zuerst Probebohrungen in Kreuzwald in Lothringen durch, bevor er in der Gegend von Hochwald im Nordelsass auf reiche Kohlenfelder stieß. Ab 1900 beutete die Felder die Saar und Mosel Bergwerks-AG aus.
