Das 145 qm große Gürbetal (Gürbe ist der linksseitige Zufluß zur Aare im Kanton Bern) war einst weitgehend versumpft und überschwemmungsgefährdet. Durch umfassende Flußregulierungen und Meliorationen wurde es jedoch zum “bernischen Gemüsegarten” umgewandelt. Die Gesellschaft wurde 1944 umbenannt in AG Gürbetal-Bern-Schwarzenburg-Bahn.
