place: | Evansville, Indiana | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 35 | | Info: | Erste Anläufe gab es schon 1853 mit der „Evansville, Indianapolis & Cleveland Straight Line RR“, 1871 wurde dann die „Indianapolis & Evansville Straight Line RR“ gegründet, 1878 schließlich trat mit der City of Evansville als Großaktionär diese Bahn auf die Bühne - und schaffte es ebenfalls nicht, die 57 Meilen lange Bahn Evansville-Washington, Ind. zu bauen. Erst die 1880 gegründete Evansville & Indianapolis Ry. schaffte es Ende 1883, die schnurgerade Bahn von Evansville bis zu ihrem Anschluß an die Strecke der „Evansville & Terre Haute RR“ fertigzustellen. Bereits zuvor, nämlich im März 1883, war sie aber ebenfalls pleite gegangen, die Bahnanlagen wurden in der Konkursversteigerung im Juni 1884 an eine „Railroad“ unter sonst gleichem Namen verkauft. Diese nahm 1885 fusionsweise noch die „Terre Haute & Southeastern RR“ und die „Evansville, Washington & Brazil RR“ auf und besaß damit dann die 130 Meilen lange Hauptbahn von Evansville nach Terre Haute, Ind. mit 12 Meilen langem Abzweig von Saline City nach Brazil.
