Der Durchbruch gelang Ford 1908 mit dem berühmten Modell T, dessen Siegeszug sich bis 1927 fortsetzte. Hier führte Ford als Pionier seiner Branche die Fließband-Produktion ein. Die Konzentration auf nur ein einziges Modell wurde in der Weltwirtschaftskrise ein existenzielles Problem, das Ford aber überwand. Fords erstes Wagnis mit einem sportlichen Auto war der Thunderbird von 1954. Mit dem inzwischen legendären Mustang von 1964 schrieb Ford Automobilgeschichte.
