Info:Die Bank von Columbia wurde 1793 in George Town, Maryland gechartert. Im Direktorium saßen viele prominente Männer, so der Finanzier William Marbury (1761-1835), der Anwalt Francis Scott Key (1780-1843) und John Threlkeld /1758-1830), ein Landbesitzer und Georgetown's Bürgermeister. Der erste President war Benjamin Stoddert (1751-1813), ein bekannter Händler. Der zweite President, ab 1798, war John Mason (1725-1792). Samuel Hanson war cashier, gefolgt von Wilh. Whann. Die Bank hatte berühmte Kunden, so z.B. den New Yorker Händler John Jacob Astor (1763-1848), den Architekten Benjamin Henry Latrobe (1764-1820) und den schwedischen Konsul und Aristokraten Richard Soderstrom. Auch der US-President James Monroe (1758-1831) war Kunde der Bank. Die Bank steckte des öfteren in Schwierigkeiten, die genauen Umstände des Bankrotts sind nicht genau geklärt, es handelte sich aber wohl vor allem um Mismanagement. Die Bank ging 1824 bankrott.
