Die aufziehende Weltwirtschaftskrise bot dann einmalige Kaufgelegenheiten: Die Greystone Vinery, die ein William Bourn 1888 für 500.000 $ gebaut hatte und die inzwischen der California Wine Association gehörte, konnte die „California Vineyards Company“ im Jan. 1931 für unter 50.000 $ kaufen. Eine Winzerin aus dem Napa Valley schrieb damals an einen Verwandten: „If your father-in-law is serious abaout buying land and property in Napa Valley, he should hasten to do so. Some fine bargains are being snapped up by those lucky enough to have any spare money on hand.
