Von Anfang an kämpfte die Bahn mit Geldschwierigkeiten, der Streckenbau in Anderson begann erst 1873, und erst 1877 erreichte die Bahn Noblesville und der erste Zug befuhr die Strecke. Kurz darauf gin die Bahn in Konkurs und wurde 1885 als Cleveland, Indiana & St. Louis RR reorganisiert.
