Die 1874 eröffnete Bahn, ursprünglich eine sog „farm-to-market road“, wurde 1879 an die Wabash, St. Louis & Pacific verpachtet, die damit das fehlende Mittelstück ihrer Verbindung von St. Louis zur Ostküste erhielt.
