place: | Pennsylvania | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 2286 | | Info: | Konzessioniert 1860 als Philadelphia & Montgomery County RR zum Bau der 22 Meilen langen Strecke Philadelphia-Newton, Pa., 1873 umbenannt wie oben. 1874 und erneut 1876 wegen Zahlungsunfähigkeit reorganisiert. Im Jahr der Gründung gab es zwei Strecken zwischen New York und Philadelphia, die New Jersey RR & Transportation sowie die Camden & Amboy RR. 1867 gingen beide zusammen zur United New Jersey Railroad and Canal Co., die 1871 an die Pennsylvania RR verpachtet wurde. Dadurch besaß diese ein Monopol auf der „Rennstrecke“ New York-Philadelphia. Die Philadelphia, Newtown & New York RR wurde von der Pennsylvania RR 1873 nur gepachtet, um damit eine zu ihrer „Rennstrecke“ konkurrierende Strecke der National Ry. zu vereiteln. Als diese Ges. ihre strategische Bedeutung für die Pennsylvania RR verloren hatte, wurde sie an die North Pennsylvania RR weitergereicht und damit Teil des Reading-Systems. Bis 1945 blieb die Ges. eigenständig, danach wurde sie mit einer Reihe weiterer kleiner Bahnen in die Reading Co. hineinfusioniert. Später ging das Eigentum an die Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) über, die die Strecke heute als ihre „Fox Chase Rapid Transit Line“ betreibt. | | Specials: | Übergroßes Querformat, orange/schwarzer Druck mit Vignette. | | Availability: | Unentwertet, kpl.
