Die Fabrik mit eigenem Anschlußgleis an die Gera-Meuselwitz-Wuitzer Eisenbahn bezog ihre Rohstoffe aus Tongruben im Geraer Stadtteil Cretzschwitz und dem benachbarten Söllmnitz. Hergestellt wurden Dachziegel und feine Tonwaren, seit 1916 ausschließlich Dachsteine. Die Anwerbung von Arbeitern aus dem Umland und aus Böhmen brachte für Cretzschwitz ab der Jahrhundertwende den Wandel vom Bauerndorf zum Industriearbeiterdorf. 1946 wurde die Reussengrube enteignet und das damals modernste und leistungsfähigste Dachziegel-Werk demontiert, 1948 als VEB „Reussengrube“ wiedererstanden.
