Altoona wurde eines der wichtigsten Betriebswerke der Pennsylvania RR, die dortige Lokomotivfabrik war zeitweise die viertgrößte der USA (und etwas westlich von Altoona liegt die berühmte 1854 gebaute „Horseshoe Curve“ der PRR). Die Straßenbahn beschäftigte 300 Leute, beförderte 11,5 Mio.
