Der Erfolg dieser Bahn und der Wunsch der Wirtschaft, eine durchgehende Eisenbahnverbindung von Harrisburg nach Philadelphia zu erhalten, war 1846 ein ganz maßgeblicher Grund für die Gründung der später so mächtigen Pennsylvania Railroad. Schon 1860 wurde die Bahn für 999 Jahre an die PRR verpachtet und war dann der mittlere Teil der 355 Meilen langen Hauptstrecke Philadelphia-Pittsburgh, Pa.
