Seine Bahn führte von Spokane, Wash. in nordöstlicher Richtung nach Little Dalles am Columbia River an der Grenze zu Kanada. Sein Plan, die Bahn weiter nach Kanada zu führen, stieß zunächst auf den Widerstand der kanadischen Regierung, die fürchtete, damit würde man am Ende der Great Northern Tür und Tor nach Kanada öffnen. Erst 1891 erhielt Corbin die Genehmigung zur Gründung der Nelson & Fort Sheppard Ry., die die Bahn durch Kanada bis zum Kootenay Lake weiterführte (dort ab 1900 Anschluß an eine am Kootenay Lake entlangführende Canadian-Pacific-Strecke). 1898 von der Great Northern übernommen worden.
