Bisher hatten die Jaffaer Juden in der Stadt in schmutzigen engen Gassen gehaust. 1909 wurde mit Hilfe eines Bankkredits von 250.000 Frs. an die 60 Mitglieder des Häuserbauvereins Achuzath Bajith an der Chaussee von Jaffa nach Petach-Tikwa eine neuer Stadtteil Tel-Awiw erbaut. Das mit breiten Strassen, Kanalisation und allen modernen Einrichtungen erbaute Tel-Awiw ist schnell ein Mittelpunkt nationaljüdischen Lebens in Palästina geworden.
