place: | Minnesota | | Picture: |  | | Number: | A 20225 | | Info: | Gegründet 1888 in Minnesota und North Dakota durch Zusammenschluß von vier zuvor unter die Kontrolle der Canadian Pacific gekommenen Vorgängerbahnen. Diese waren ursprünglich von Getreidefarmern und Mühlenbesitzern des Mittleren Westens gegründet worden, um die Monopole der „Northern Pacific“ von James Hill und anderer Großkapital-Bahnen zu brechen. Die 1.041 Meilen lange Hauptstrecke führte von Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. über Minneapolis, Minn. nach Portal, N.D. (dort Anschluß an die Canadian Pacific). 1909 Übernahme von 51 % der Wisconsin Central Ry., deren 1.126 Meilen lange Strecken anschließend gepachtet wurden. 1912 Gründung der Central Terminal Railway als 100 %ige Tochter für den Bau eines völlig neuen Bahnhofs in Chicago. Insgesamt verfügte diese von der Canadian Pacific mehrheitlich kontrollierte Ges. über ein Streckennetz von 4.295 Meilen Länge! 1937 in Konkurs gegangen und anschließend als "Railroad" reorganisiert. „Soo Line“ hieß die Bahn im Volksmund schon immer, 1961 wurde dies nach Fusion mit weiteren wichtigen Canadian-Pacific-Töchtern (Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste.
