Der Comstock Tunnel galt seinerzeit als eine bergbauliche Meisterleistung. Die geniale Idee war, die Comstock Mines in Nevada nicht wie üblich von oben, sondern von unten zu entwässern und zu belüften. Die Minen, die den 7,5 Meilen langen Tunnel in Anspruch nahmen, zahlten dafür 4 % ihres Jahresertrages. | Specials: | Vorderseitig unentwertete Originalunterschrift von Theodore Sutro, der Bruder von Adolph Sutro (1830-1898), deutsche Juden, die 1850 nach Amerika ausgewandert sind (sie waren 7 Brüder und 3 Schwestern). Nach Beendigung seines Stollenunternehmens betätigte sich Sutro als Kunstförderer, er gründete eine Musikgesellschaft, heute bekannt als Wednesday Club und gründete mit Fritz Finke die Oratorio Society of Baltimore. Adolphe Sutro ließ das berühmte Sutro-Bad, mit 6 der größten Indoor Swimmingpools, einem Museum und einer Schlittschuhlaufbahn bauen.
