Mit der Eröffnung der Sonora Railroad die Küste hoch Richtung Norden erfuhren die Minen des Küstenstaates Sinaloa einen bemerkenswerten Aufschwung und zogen sofort amerikanische Glücksritter an. So wurde die rentabel produzierende, auf 1.100 m Höhe liegende Jocuistita Mine im April 1880 von den Geschäftemachern Lounsbury und Tevis für 450.000 $ gekauft; bei Einbringung in diese AG hatte sich nur einen Monat später der Wert auf wundersame Weise auf 2,5 Mio. $ schon mehr als verfünffacht. Quartalsdividenden von 1 $ plus 0,50 $ Bonus gaukelten eine Aktienrendite von 6 % pro Quartal vor und kurbelten den Aktienverkauf an.
