In den Staaten Maine und New Hampshire wurde hierfür die Portland & Ogdensburg RR gegründet, sie begann 1869 mit dem Bau der Strecke Portland-Lunenburg. Drei weitere Bahngesellschaften entstanden im Rahmen des Gesamtprojektes 1864-67 im Staat Vermont. Die Essex County RR erhielt 1864 die Konzession für den an die Portland & Ogdensburg RR anschließenden Abschnitt Lunenburg-St. Johnbury. Dort wiederum schloß die Montpelier & St. Johnsbury RR an, während die Lamoille Valley RR abzweigend von der Montpelier & St. Johnsbury RR die Nebenstrecke West Danville-Swanton baute. Eine Weiterführung von West Danville nach Montpelier wurde verworfen, da die Stadt Montpelier kein Interesse an dem Projekt hatte. Alle von diesen vier Bahngesellschaften gebauten Teilstrecken der Verbindung Portland-Ogdensburg wurden 1887 (bis 1925) an die Boston & Maine RR verpachtet. | | Specials: | Meisterhafte Bahnhofsszene mit Frontalansicht einer Eisenbahn, links Schiffsanlegestelle, im Hintergrund Berge von Vermont; in der Umrandung zwei weibliche Allegorien.
