Jh. Die Goldvorkommen nahe der Oberfläche erwiesen sich als derart ergiebig, daß Goldfield schon 1908 mit 20.000 Bewohnern die größe Stadt in Nevada wurde (in der 1905 die Tonopah & Goldfield RR ankam und wo ein gewisser Virgil Earp, Bruder von Wyatt Earp, Sheriff war). So schnell wie der Goldrausch gekommen war, war er kurz nach 1910 nach rascher Erschöpfung der Vorkommen auch wieder vorbei.
