place: | Hamburg | | Picture: |  | | Info: | Gegründet 1862 in Itzehoe von Gustav Olsen unter der Firma Alsen‘sche Portland-Cement-Fabriken KG. Ab 1884 AG zum Betrieb von Cement- und Thonwarenfabriken und Ziegeleien in Itzehoe und Uetersen. 1899 beschloss die GV die Errichtung einer Cementfabrik in Nordamerika unter der Firma Alsens American Portland Cement Works. Dazu Erwerb von Grundstücken in Nazareth (Pennsylvania) und in West-Camp am Hudson (Staat New York). 1902 besaß die Gesellschaft eigene Schleppdampfer und Leichter, da sie einen grossen Teil ihrer Fabrikate nach Nordamerika exportierte. 1972 fusioniert mit der Breitenburger Portland-Cement-Fabrik-AG zur Alsen-Breitenburg Zement- und Kalkwerke GmbH. 1997 Fusion mit der Nordcement AG zur Alsen AG, 2003 umbenannt in Holcim (Deutschland) AG. 1907/08 baute Alsen eine 13 km lange Drahtseilbahn, die als die längste Seilbahn Deutschlands gilt.
