place: | San Francisco, Cal. | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 217 | | Info: | Gegründet 1897 zum Bau einer von der Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe und der Southern Pacific in Oakdale, Cal. abzweigenden 57 Meilen langen Bahn das Central Valley hinauf über Arnold, Paulsell, Warnerville, Cooperstown und Chinese nach Jamestown (eröffnet 1897) und weiter an der Nordseite des Yosemite National Park entlang nach Tuolumne City (eröffnet 1900). 1937 zahlungsunfähig und als „Railroad“ reorganisiert. 1955 Umstellung auf Dieseltraktion, doch behielt die Bahn ihre Dampflokomotiven für Film- und Fernseh-Aufnahmen, wofür sie bis heute berühmt ist. Dafür eröffnete die Sierra RR 1971 mit „Rail Town 1897“ sogar eine eigene Touristen-Attraktion, die 1982 als „State Historic Park“ an das California Department of Parks and Recreation verkauft wurde. Der bis heute bestehende eigentliche Bahnbetrieb wurde 1995 an die Sierra Pacific Coast Ry. verkauft, 2003 mit der Yolo Short Line Ry. verschmolzen und 2008 noch um die von der BNSF aufgegebene Hauptstrecke Riverbank-Oakdale erweitert. | | Specials: | Hübsch gestaltet, mit Wappenadler und Fahne. | | Availability: | Unentwertet.
