Dewey kaufte mit seiner Frau Annie am Mirror Lake in den Adirondack Mountains im Staat New York ein Stück Land und gründete dort den Lake Placid Club. 1904 importierte Dewey Wintersportgeräte aus Europa nach Lake Placid, was die Geburtsstunde des bis heute ikonischen Wintersport-Resorts war. Dewey Vater und Sohn schafften es schließlich, 1932 die III. Olympischen Winterspiele zum ersten Mal nach Lake Placid zu holen. Ende der 1970er Jahre setzten veränderte Reisegewohnheiten Unternehmen wie dem Lake Placid Club schwer zu. Letzter Glanzpunkt war die Beherbergung des Internationalen Olympischen Kommittees während der XIII. Olympischen Winterspiele 1980. Kurz danach verkaufte die Lake Placid Co. das Resort, 1992 brannte das Hauptgebäude ab.
