Das Grand-Canon-Vorkommen erschien zunächst wie ein Lottogewinn, ergab eine Probe des schwarzen Sandes doch 35 Feinunzen Gold pro Tonne. Später stellte sich heraus, daß die kleine Probeflasche keinen repräsentativen Inhalt hatte.
