Beispielsweise im Holzgeschäft, in Hotels und in der Eisenindustrie. 1890 errichteten William Doud Packard und sein Bruder James Ward Packard die Packard Electric Co., die Glühlampen herstellte. Eine Abteilung der Packard Elektric Co. war die New York and Ohio Co., die 1899 das erste Packard-Automobil produzierte.
