Ernest Beaux, in Russland geboren, arbeitete für Parfums Rallet zunächst in Moskau. Mitten im 1. Weltkrieg ging er nach Frankreich und ließ sich in Grasse nieder, wo er mit der Firma Parfums Rallet zu einem der angesehensten Parfümeure des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts wurde. 1920 lernte er COCO CHANEL lernen, die Mode-Queen. Für sie entwarf Beaux eine Duftkomposition, die als “Chanel No. 5” zum meistverkauften Parfüm der Welt wurde.
