place: | Detroit, Mich. | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 63 | | Info: | Gegründet 1883 für den Bau der 31 Meilen langen Bahn Kalamazoo-Hastings, Mich. 1887 Erweiterung der Konzession auf eine 141 Meilen lange Verbindung von der Chicago & Grand Trunk Ry. nach Saginaw. Dies blieb eine große Vision: Fertiggestellt wurde nur ein 14 Meilen langes Teilstück von Hastings nach Woodbury, wo man an die Detroit, Lansing & Northern RR (später: Pere Marquette RR) anschloß. 1901 gab es (finanziert durch Ausgabe von 450.000 $ pref. shares) immerhin noch eine Verlängerung auf nun 44 Meilen bis Pavillon, Mich., dort Anschluß an die Grand Trunk Ry. 1906 an die Michigan Central verpachtet und auf dem Wege 1930 vollständig im mächtigen System der New York Central aufgegangen. Die N.Y. Central betrieb die Strecke der CK&S unter ihrem alten Namen bis 1968, danach an Conrail verkauft und bis 2010 schrittweise stillgelegt und abgebaut. | | Availability: | Nach unseren Unterlagen waren überhaupt nur 7 sog. “directors shares” begeben.
