place: | New Hampshire | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 770 | | Info: | 1845 gab es im Staat New Hampshire drei Nord-Süd-Eisenbahnen, alle in Massachusetts beginnend und zur Hauptstadt Concord führend. Um die große Lücke zwischen der Boston-Concord-Strecke und der Boston & Maine-Strecke über Dover zu schließen wurden 1845 zwei Eisenbahnen neu gegründet: Die Portsmouth, New Market & Concord RR und die Portsmouth, New Market & Exeter RR. Beide hatten eine Konzession zum Bau einer Eisenbahn von Portsmouth bis zum Anschluß an die Concord RR zwischen Manchester und Concord. Sie fusionierten wenige Monate nach ihrer Gründung zur Portsmouth & Concord RR, 1847 begann der Bahnbau, 1852 ging die 50 Meilen lange Hauptstrecke in Betrieb. Die Einnahmen erfüllten bei weitem nicht die Erwartungen, bereits 1855 in Konkurs gegangen und als Concord & Portsmouth RR reorganisiert. Auch die neue Ges. war wirtschaftlich erfolglos. 1858 wurde die Bahn an die finanzstarke Concord RR (ab 1889 die Concord & Montreal RR) verpachtet. 1895 ging die Betriebsführung an die Boston & Maine RR über. Diese erwarb 1940 die Aktienmehrheit, 1944 war sie Alleinaktionär. Die Strecke wurde ab 1982 schrittweise stillgelegt, heute wird nur noch ein kleines Stück bei Portsmouth von der Pan Am Railways betrieben. | | Specials: | Druck auf hellgrauem Papier, mit gedecktem Lacksiegel, kleinformatig. | | Availability: | Unentwertet.
