place: | New York | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 311 | | Info: | Schon 1846 unternahm die New York & Boston RR im Staat Connecticut den ersten Versuch zum Bau einer sehr geraden 54 Meilen langen Verbindung von New Haven, in Middletown etwas nach Westen abknickend, nach Boston. Nur wenige Meilen waren gebaut, als die Bahn in der Panik von 1857 unterging. 1867 folgte der zweite Versuch mit der New Haven, Middletown & Willimantic RR, deren Strecke 1870 bis Middletown und 1873 bis Willimantic betriebsbereit war. Auch sie ging 1875 pleite, wurde unter obigem Namen reorganisiert und 1882 an die rapide wachsende New York, New Haven & Hartford verpachtet. Das Teilstück Portland-Willimantic, Ct. wurde 1965 stillgelegt, der Rest gehört heute zur Providence & Worcester RR. | | Specials: | Ausgestellt auf President and Fellows of HARVARD COLLEGE, Boston, Mass.
