Das 24-Meilen-Teilstück von Keokuk nach Fort Madison wurde im Febr. 1869 eröffnet, dann von der Chicago, Burlington & Quincy gekauft (die den Bahnkörper sofort überholen musste), die restlichen 18 Meilen bis Burlington gingen im Okt. 1869 in Betrieb.
