Ende der 1920er Jahre geriet die Bank durch verfehlte und hochspekulative Immobilieninvestitionen in massive Schlageite. Die heraufziehende Weltwirtschaftskrise gab der Bank den Rest. Bis 1932 hatte das Institut sein gesamtes Eigenkapital vollständig eingebüßt.
