Der hier angebotene Scheck trägt die Originalsignatur pro Fréres Bethmann. Das Bankhaus Phil. Nic. Schmidt wurde gegründet 1774 als Farbwarenhandlung. Erst nachdem der Bankier Achilles Andreae (1820-1888) die Firma übernahm, stieg sie in das lukrative Anleihengeschäft ein. 1905 ging das Bankhaus auf die Darmstädter Bank über.
