Anders als die weiter westlich neu angelegten Bahnen erschloß zu der Zeit diese Strecke (was durch Anschlußbahnen von weiteren 46 Meilen unterstrichen wird) bereits entwickeltes Land, und die Getreideproduzenten und -verarbeiter sowie die Holzwerke nördlich von Brainerd engagierten sich als Großaktionäre. So wurde 1897 C. A. Pillsbury (“Knack und Back”) zum president gewählt. 1900 kam die inzwischen bis Granfalls verlängerte Bahn mit der St. Paul & Duluth Ry. zur Northern Pacific.
