Europa erhielt durch die Holländer den ersten Tee, die ihn in Japan eingekauft haben und 1610 nach Amsterdam einführten. Um 1635 wurde das Getränk in Frankreich bekannt, danach in Russland und erst 1650 war Tee in England zu haben. Es kam dort zu Schlachten zwischen den Anhängern des neuen Getränks und den Gegnern, die alles Üble für Teetrinker prophezeiten.
