Die einzigen kommerziell nutzbaren Erdölvorkommen wurden vor dem II. Weltkrieg nordwestlich von Warna entdeckt, jedoch nur in kleinen Mengen. Die bedeutendsten Vorkommen waren in Tyolenovo, an der Küste nördlich von Warna, wo ab 1951 gefördert wurde.
