Handelsgesellschaft in Afrika, aufgebaut von John Holt (1841-1915), der 1862 als junger Mann von Liverpool nach Fernando Po (Guinea) segelte, dort als Kaufmannsgehilfe arbeitete, nach 5 Jahren seinen Arbeitgeber aufkaufte und einen lebhaften Export von Palmöl, Gummi und Kakao nach England aufzog. Im Gegenzug importierte er, mittlerweile auf eigenen Schiffen, Textilien aus Lancashire und Fahrräder aus Birmingham.
