Henry Myron Blackmer, ein bedeutender Bankier, Inhaber des Bankhauses Colorado Trading & Transfer Co., machte ein Riesenvermögen mit seinen Investitionen in Cripple Creek-Goldminen (Orphan, Olive Branch, Buckhorn, Findley, Morning Star, New Haven, Pilgrim). Die Gründung einer Eisenbahnholding im Cripple Creek Distrikt ist nur dank Blackmers zustande gekommen. 1923 gründete Blackmer mit einigen Ölbaronen die Continental Trading Co. Zu seinen Partnern zählte u.a. Harry Sinclair (Sinclair Oil Co.) und Robert Stewart (Standard Oil Co. of Indiana). Blackmers hervorragende Büchersammlung wurde 1989 bei Sotheby’s versteigert. Die Henry M. Blackmer Foundation verwaltet heute knapp 3 Mio. $ und unterstützt u.a. die National Audubon Society und Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
