Ford, war Mitbesitzer der Pacific Coast Motor Car Co., die die Rechte zum Handeln mit FIAT an der Westküste, inclusive Seattle, San Francisco und Los Angeles hatte. Er war begeisterter Fan des Autorennsports. Eugene kaufte 1910 einen FIAT-Rennwagen und engagierte einen Fahrer, David Bruce-Brown. Der Rennwagen hatte einen 175 PS-Motor und konnte eine Geschwindigkeit von 75 mph erreichen. Der Fahrer erzielte im Ersten Indianapolis 500 Rennen den 3. Platz, der Eigentümer Eugene gewann 3.250 $. Eugene hatte keine Kinder, aber sein Bruder Walter. William Redington Hewlett (1913-2001) war Student in Stanford und er tat sich in den 1930 mit einem anderen Studenten zusammen: David Packard.
