Betsy Ross heiratete 1773 John Ross, Sohn des Reverend Eneas Ross. Nachdem John Ross als Soldat ums Leben kam, führte Betsy Ross das Polsterei-Geschäft ihres Ehemannes, zu dem auch das Nähen von Flaggen gehörte, weiter.
