Zunächst hatte sie den Zweck, dem Staat ihr ganzes Aktienkapital zur Finanzierung des Krieges gegen Frankreich zu leihen. Als Gegenwert erhielt sie das Recht Bankgeschäfte zu betreiben und Banknoten auszugeben. Von 1751 an übernahm die Bank von England die Verwaltung der Staatsschuld. 1946 wurde die Bank verstaatlicht. | | Specials: | Großformatiges Papier, mehrfach original signiert.
