Nach dem Zusammenbruch der Monarchie lieferten sich 1919 zwei italienische Gruppen eine erbitterte Übernahmeschlacht: FIAT und Castiglioni. 1921 ging das FIAT-Paket an Stinnes, die im Pool mit Castiglioni die Mehrheit erreichten. 1939 Zusammenlegung mit der Reichswerke AG für Erzbergbau und Eisenhütten "Hermann Göring". Die entsprechende Umfirmierung wurde 1945 rückgängig gemacht. 1946 verstaatlicht.
