place: | Amoskeig Falls, New Hampshire | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 993 | | Info: | Samuel Blodget (1724-1807) war ein Unternehmer und Pionier des frühen Transportwesens der USA, der oft in einem Atemzug mit Robert Morris genannt wurde. 1794 (25 Jahre nachdem er erstmals die Idee hatte) begann Blodget mit eigenem Geld bei den Amoskeig Falls (am Merrimack River) in New Hampshire den Bau des Kanals mit neun 45 Fuß hohen Schleusen. Fünf Jahre Arbeit waren umsonst (und Blodgets Geld verloren), als 1798 eine verheerende Flut den Kanal vollständig zerstörte. Doch Blodget begann ganz von vorne und gründete die Blodget Canal Company.
