Rothschild und seinem Schwiegervater Sir Moses Montefiore als Konkurrenz zu den Lloyds. Nathan M. Rothschild (1777-1836), einer der fünf Söhne von Mayer Amschel Rothschild, ging zwischen 1790 und 1800 als Textilkaufmann nach Manchester. 1808 gründete er die Bank N.M. Rothschild & Sons in London, die noch heute erfolgreich arbeitet. Nathan investierte Wilhelms Soldatengeld in Gold der Ostindischen Company, welches für spätere Feldzüge Wellingtons benötigt wurde. Durch den Kauf und Wiederverkauf von Wellington-Aktien, den Verkauf und Rückkauf des Goldes an Wellington, dessen Versand nach Portugal und den Schmuggel während der Kontinentalsperre, erwirtschaftete er ein Vermögen. Er wurde zum einflussreichsten Finanzier der britischen Regierung. Seine Alliance British & Foreign Life & Fire Assurance Co. änderte 1886 ihren Namen zu Alliance Assurance Co., heute bekannt als Royal & San Alliance Insurance Group. | | Specials: | Original signiert von Nathan Mayer Rothschild als Präsident der Gesellschaft.
