Schon seit Mai 1856 fuhren die Züge der Cie. de l'Ouest-Suisse durch die Orbe-Ebene und hielten in Chavornay. Der vier Kilometer abseits gelegene Bezirkshauptort hatte keinen Bahnanschluss. Als sich dort die Industrie mit Mühlen und einer Nestle-Fabrik vergrösserte, musste ein geeigneter Anschluss an den Rest der Schweiz gefunden werden. So wurde am 17. April 1894 die normalspurige, vier Kilometer lange Überlandbahn Orbe-Chavornay eröffnet. Am 1. Juni 2003 übernahm die Gesellschaft TRAVYS die Geschäftsleitung der C.d.F.
